The Compass includes all-wheel drive on every trim and adds a genuine off-road Trailhawk with skid plates, tow hooks, and a low-range mode. The RAV4 starts front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive optional, and offers a rugged TRD Off-Road trim of its own.
The 2026 RAV4 is hybrid-only and rated far higher on fuel economy, up to about 39 mpg combined. The Compass answers with a lower entry price that already includes all-wheel drive and off-road hardware on the Trailhawk.
The Compass uses a 200-horsepower turbocharged four with strong midrange pull. The RAV4 hybrid makes about 226 horsepower with instant electric torque and quieter around-town driving.
